Marvin J. Tilker, President & CEO

Marvin J. Tilker founded the Tilker Medical Research Foundation with a focus on stem cell research and nanotechnology, because of the vast potential of this area of science, capable of enhancing the health of literally every organ in the body. As President and CEO, together with other members of the Board of Directors, he sets the strategy for the Foundation and appoints Advisory Committee members.

Mr. Tilker became a founding shareholder of privately held Marathon Group, LLC. in 2002. The group includes Brewer Industries (BEI) and HT & Trucking Company.

He has served as Executive Vice President of C. Brewer and Company, Limited since September of 1980, with responsibility for land resources and development; Maui Pineapple and macadamia nut operations; Human Resources; Governmental Relations; Public Relations; all office administration functions; and Maui Tropical Plantation, a joint venture between Wailuku Agribusiness Co. and Toyama Maui Plantation. He is also a founding shareholder of privately held C. Brewer, established in December 1986.

Mr. Tilker joined C. Brewer (then a subsidiary of IU International Corporation) in 1978 as Senior Vice President-Finance. Previously, he held executive positions in finance and operations with IU’s distribution subsidiaries (Codesco, Inc. and IU Distribution Services, Inc.) in Philadelphia. Before joining the IU organization in 1974, he held various financial positions with Mobil Corp, and its subsidiaries in New York and London.

In addition, Mr. Tilker was Chairman of the Board of C. Brewer Properties, Inc.; Wailuku Agribusiness Co; Inc.; Kilauea Irrigation Co., Inc.; Punalu’u Bake Shop, and Wailuku Plantations, Inc. He was a director of the California Hawaiian (C & H ) Sugar Company, Media Five Limited and several C. Brewer subsidiaries. Mr. Tilker retired from C. Brewer and Company LTD. in 1991. He is a member of Financial Executives Institute and licensed real estate salesperson in the State of Hawaii. He is also a member of the Plaza Club.

Born in New York City in 1936, Mr. Tilker earned his BA in economics from Brooklyn College and his Master’s in finance from Columbia University. He and his wife Marcia live in Honolulu, Hawaii. They have three adult children: Marc, Caryn and Lynn.


Marc Coel, M.D., , Vice President

Marc Coel, M.D. is Director of Nuclear Medicine, Queen’s Medical Center, and Professor of Radiology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii. He was previously Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Diego. He has published more than 90 scientific peer-reviewed articles, five book chapters and an Atlas of Nuclear Medicine text. He has conducted many clinical trials, the latest of which have been for the diagnostic use of radiopeptides and radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies in the therapy of malignant lymphoma. At present, he is co-developer of F-18 fluorocholine, a potential PET tracer for prostate cancer and brain tumors. He, along with Dr. Henry Wagner, was responsible for the collaboration between The Queen’s Medical Center and Hamamatsu Photonics in the establishment of the PET Center at Queen’s Medical Center. Dr. Coel is also the Medical Director for Hawaii P.E.T. Imaging.


 Robert S. Katz, Secretary

Robert S. Katz, ESQ is a Director with Torkildson, Katz, Fonseca Moore & Hetherington. An experienced trial attorney, his practice is concentrated in the area of complex business and real estate transactions, employment and labor law matters, healthcare law and complex business litigation. He also serves as an arbitrator in business transactional disputes.

Mr. Katz has practiced with the firm since 1968 and has been consistently recognized as one of Hawaii’s preeminent lawyers. Mr. Katz is the only current Hawaii lawyer honored with the selection to the American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and has also been consistently selected by The Best Lawyers in America and honored by Who’s Who in America. He has also been named as one of Hawaii’s A+ Lawyers by Honolulu Magazine.

Mr. Katz received his B.A. degree in History from Rutgers University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School. Mr. Katz is admitted to the bar of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Katz is active in many community projects, and currently serves as a trustee of the Blood Bank of Hawaii.
He also served several years as co-chair of the American Bar Association’s employment law section on antitrust and labor relations law.


Officers

Lynn E. Tilker, Executive Director

As Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of the Tilker Medical Research Foundation, Lynn Tilker is instrumental in managing the day-to-day business operations of setting up the Foundation along with investment and grant-giving strategies set by the Foundation’s Board of Directors and Advisory Committee. Her responsibilities include marketing and communications as well as public, institutional and community relations for the Foundation.

Lynn has long been active in not-for-profit organizations and causes. For instance, she was a producer of the Asian tsunami relief benefit concert organized by Bay Area Unites, a coalition of Northern California-based philanthropic groups, which raised over $1.5 million. She has also served as Chairman of the ‘Zoom’ auxiliary committee of the San Francisco Film Festival, helping to build a brand awareness campaign that resulted in a double-digit increase in Festival attendance, and a fundraiser and benefit coordinator for the Surfrider Foundation.

Her corporate experience includes Global Microsoft Alliance Manager at Cisco Systems, where she coordinated a team which developed channel programs and solutions for Cisco and Microsoft partners which resulted in over $36 million in revenues, and Senior Business Development Manager at professional services firm EngineX Networks, where she was responsible for defining and managing strategic partnerships with EngineX’s top manufacturers. In addition, Ms. Tilker was an International Specialist with the Office of the Governor, State of Hawaii, managing visits of foreign dignitaries with senior Hawaii officials. She has also served as a Network Consultant with Net.World and Account Executive with Ikon Office Solutions.

Ms. Tilker has a B.A. Degree in Mass Communications from Menlo College.


Marc C. Tilker, Treasurer

Marc C. Tilker is a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer and one of the principle owners of the Marathon Group of Companies, which include BEI Hawaii (Hawaii's largest distributor of industrial chemicals, fertilizers, and agricultural products); HT&T Hawaii (Hawaii's largest heavy and medium-duty truck dealer) including Peterbilt, Volvo and GMC dealerships and BES (BEI Environmental Services) which was sold in December 2005.

Prior to the buyout of these companies Marc spent 10 years with C. Brewer & Company, Ltd. most recently as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Brewer Environmental Industries LLC a $100 million diversified corporation operating on Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii with satellite offices in Guam, Tokyo and Seattle. He had major responsibilities for profits, cash flow, and expense management as well as financial and internal controls and reinvestment opportunities, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and mergers. Prior to that Marc was with Deloitte and Touche in Honolulu.

In addition to his business achievements, His community service activities have included serving as a trustee or director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Cancer Society, Junior Achievement of Hawaii, Temple Emanu-El, Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross, Gift Foundation, Hawaii Business Roundtable, Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and other organizations.

Marc is married and has 3 children.
